Do you need Roof Bars?

You'll need some roof bars to fit these boxes. We recommend you order these directly from your vehicles manufacturer.

If you own a Honda Odyssey and you travel a lot, a good-sized rooftop cargo box is an item worth considering. Simply put, the right cargo box gives you extra storage space that you wouldn’t have without it, in part because you can use your trunk space for something besides suitcases. If you’ve never purchased a rooftop carrier before, not to worry because it really is a lot easier than you think. There are just a few things to consider before you’re one step closer to finding the right rooftop carrier, and it starts with the following questions:

How Much Space Do I Need?

Like other rooftop carriers, a Honda Odyssey cargo carrier will have a capacity that is described as either the amount of cubic feet or the amount in pounds that the carrier can accommodate. But don’t worry because you have a lot of options when it comes to the size of the carrier. Some can hold less than 10 cubic feet of items, while others hold more than 20 cubic feet. You really do have a lot of options.

Do I Need a Lock and Key for My Carrier?

Many rooftop carriers come with a key that allows you to lock them for extra safety and security. You may not consider this a necessity, depending on where you’ll be traveling and how important the items inside of the carrier are, but if it’s important for your carrier to be extra-secure, you’ll want to find one that locks with a lock and key instead of just shutting tight.

Do I Need the Carrier to Be Waterproof?

One thing you’ll notice about rooftop carriers is that some are water-resistant, while others are fully waterproof. If you travel or live in an area that gets a lot of rain, you’ll want to get a carrier that is waterproof. Even if you don’t experience a lot of rain, you’ll want to make sure your rooftop carrier is made out of sturdy materials, such as ABS plastic or PU plastic/leather.

How Easy Is the Carrier to Install?

Rooftop carriers are usually installed in one of two ways: with a rack that is installed on top of the vehicle or with straps that go around the top of the vehicle. If you’re not keen on installing a rack on your vehicle, you might want to consider a rooftop carrier that can be attached to the vehicle with only straps. Neither of these carriers is better than the other; it’s just a matter of preference on your part.

Honda Odyssey Roof Box

If your Honda Odyssey needs a rooftop carrier, you’re in luck because there are a lot of them to choose from. They can be either large or small so as not to be awkward-looking, and they come in many different materials, including a sturdy bag material or even a hard-shell material. Both are super strong and will take good care of the items inside, and even better, most of them are very reasonably priced. Although the hard-shell carriers are the most expensive, you can choose the carrier bags if you want to save some money and still get a strong, high-quality rooftop carrier.

One of the best roof boxes for the Honda Odyssey is the SportRack 7095 Skyline XL rooftop carrier, which has features such as:

  • An opening on the passenger side to keep you out of harm’s way
  • Locks to make sure the carrier is extra-secure at all times
  • A large size of 55” x 41” x 14”
  • The ability to both attach and remove it easily and quickly
  • A full 18 cubic feet of space to accommodate your belongings

You want your rooftop carrier to be practical, but you also want it to be simple to use, and the SportRack Skyline is both. If you need a large rooftop carrier that you won’t regret buying, this is it.

Cartop Carrier Honda Odyssey

The Honda Odyssey has a lot of storage space in it, but if you feel like you need even more space, you’re in luck because the rooftop carriers made for this vehicle truly offer something for everyone. They come in lots of sizes and designs, and best of all, the companies that make them have designed carriers that will last through just about anything. Finding a carrier means first deciding between bag-type and hard-shell carriers, but don’t worry because both of these are high in quality and last a long time. One of the first things you have to do is decide on the size that you need, but even that is simple because there are so many sizes to choose from.

An example of a cartop carrier for the Honda Odyssey is the Thule Pulse rooftop carrier, which holds a full 16 cubic feet worth of items and which you can assemble in minutes, not hours. It has a rugged and sturdy design and comes with a comfort key, which means you cannot remove the key until the device is completely shut and locked. It is also big enough to hold four to six skis or three to four snowboards, so you can trust it to store a lot of items on your next outing.

So, if you’re ready to choose a cartop carrier for your Honda Odyssey, how do you get started? You can start with either a brick-and-mortar sporting goods store or an online store such as Amazon and others. The good news is that with both of these options, you’ll get the perfect carrier in the end because they can help you with measurements and any other features of the carriers so that you get the right one to suit your needs. If you want just a basic cartop carrier and you don’t need a super-big one, you can go with something such as the Yakima RocketBox Pro rooftop carrier, which holds up to 12 cubic feet of items and is a little more compact than the others.

The RocketBox Pro is 58” x 36” x 16” in size and can fit enough items to accommodate two campers, which is a lot of stuff. But it isn’t so large that it looks awkward on top of your vehicle. It has an aerodynamic design to cut back on drag, and it is made out of tough ABS plastic so it can take a lot of abuse and keep on going. Even better, the hardware that comes with the carrier fits most aerodynamic rack bars, which means you can possibly use it with other types of carriers if you wish.

Best Roof Cargo Box for Honda Odyssey

Cargo boxes for the Honda Odyssey are not difficult to find if you know what you’re looking for. The CarTop Cargo 18S is an 18-cubic-foot rooftop carrier that you can install without any tools, and it has a capacity of up to 110 pounds of items. It is 57” x 39” x 19” in size and can accommodate suitcases or even larger items such as skis or snowboards. Whether you’re going camping, fishing, or backpacking, this is a great rooftop carrier to have because it gives you tons more space than you would have otherwise.

One thing’s for sure – the Honda Odyssey is a versatile vehicle that can handle a lot of different rooftop carriers. These carriers come in all sizes, designs, and even colors, and while many of them are specific to a certain make and model of vehicle, many others are universal and therefore can fit many different types of vehicles. It’s your job to determine which type of carrier you need so that you can explore them both offline and online. Although your budget always has to be a consideration, it’s best not to use this as the only important factor when deciding which cartop carrier to choose, even though there are plenty of reasonably priced carriers on the market today.
